Ava's heart pounded in her chest as the sounds of chaos echoed through the ballroom. She stood on the balcony, torn between the urge to rush in and the command Braiden had given her to stay put. She could feel the tension in the air, the sense of imminent danger lurking just beyond her sight.
Taking a deep breath, she reluctantly turned away from the banquet hall, her mind racing. She knew she had a part to play in this unfolding drama, and that hiding away would not protect her—nor the ones she cared about. She glanced around the moonlit garden, but found nothing to ease her gnawing anxiety.
A shadow moved near the edge of the garden, catching her eyes. Curiosity piqued, she walked cautiously toward the darker side of the courtyard, every sense on high alert.
Half-hidden in shadows stood a figure cloaked in black, almost indistinguishable from the night around them. It was a woman, her presence radiating a sort of enigmatic power that sent chills down Ava’s spine.
“Who are you?” Ava demanded, her voice steady despite the rising tension in her chest.
The woman turned, her face partly illuminated by the moonlight. Her eyes glowed with an ethereal light, a mesmerizing mix of deep violet and silver. “I am Selena,” she replied, her voice a melodic whisper that filled the air with an eerie calm. “A seer and guardian of ancient prophecies. And you, Ava, are at the heart of them.”
Ava took a step back, her mind spinning with questions. “What do you mean?”
Selena’s gaze softened, filled with a knowledge that seemed to stretch across centuries. “You are more than just a werewolf, Ava. You are the reincarnation of the Moon Goddess herself. Your return has been foretold, and your presence here is no coincidence. Many forces will seek to use you, to control you, for their gain. But your destiny is tied to the fate of our kind.”
The revelation hit Ava like a bolt of lightning. “Why should I believe you?”
Selena stepped closer, her eyes never wavering. “Because deep down, you already know it to be true. Your powers, the visions, the sense of being out of place—they are all parts of the puzzle that is you. And soon, you will need to embrace them fully, for the future of the werewolf kingdom depends on it.”
Before Ava could respond, a crashing sound from the ballroom interrupted them. With a quick, determined glance, Selena said, “I will be watching, Ava. Trust your instincts and be vigilant.” And with that, she melted back into the shadows, leaving Ava with more questions than answers.
Determined to get to the bottom of the chaos, Ava rushed back into the ballroom. The sight that greeted her was one of disarray. Tables overturned, guests in various states of alarm, and at the center of it all, Braiden locked in a fierce, growling stand-off with a rogue wolf. The brute was large, with shaggy gray fur and eyes glinting with malice.
Ava didn't hesitate. Transforming into her stunning white wolf form, she lunged toward the rogue, her movements fluid with a grace that mesmerized the onlookers. The crowd parted with gasps, eyes widening in awe at the sight of the only white wolf in existence.
Braiden, seeing Ava in her wolf form for the first time, felt a surge of possessive pride mixed with worry. She was magnificent, a stark contrast against the chaos. He kept his focus, attacking the rogue wolf with renewed vigor.
Their synchronized efforts soon overpowered the rogue, who retreated with a snarl, vanishing into the night. Ava quickly transformed back, her breath coming in rapid bursts as she surveyed the room.
“Is everyone alright?” she called out, her voice carrying a note of authority that surprised even her. The guests murmured affirmatives, slowly regaining their composure.
Braiden approached Ava, his eyes filled with a mix of admiration and concern. “You didn’t have to do that,” he said quietly, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face.
“Yes, I did,” Ava responded, her voice steady. “I’m not just a werewolf on the sidelines anymore. I need to understand what’s happening and why.”
Braiden nodded, recognizing the resolve in her eyes. “Then we’ll face this together,” he said, his voice filled with a promise he was determined to keep.

Later that night, as the guests retired and the ballroom was emptied and cleaned, Ava found herself alone in her room, the events of the day replaying in her mind. The mysterious rogue, the enigmatic seer Selena, and the undeniable pull toward Braiden—all of it felt like fragments of a larger, confusing puzzle.
A quiet knock on her door drew her attention. “Come in,” she called out, her voice tinged with weariness.
The door opened, and Braiden stepped in, his presence filling the room. He closed the door behind him, his gaze softening as he took in Ava’s tired expression.
“You should rest,” he said gently, crossing the room to sit beside her. “Today has been… overwhelming.”
Ava sighed, leaning back against the plush pillows. “I know. But there’s so much I don’t understand. This prophecy, the rogue attack, Selena’s warnings… It’s like I’ve been thrown into the middle of a storm without a lifeline.”
Braiden reached out, taking her hand in his. His touch was warm, steadying her racing thoughts. “We’ll figure this out, Ava. You’re not alone. Together, we’ll uncover the truth.”
The spark of electricity between them was undeniable, a force that seemed to draw them closer with each passing moment. Ava’s heart pounded as their gazes locked, a fiery intensity building in the air around them.
Braiden leaned in, his lips brushing against hers in a gentle, exploratory kiss. Ava responded instinctively, deepening the kiss as a surge of passion ignited between them. His hands caressed her back, pulling her closer as their breaths mingled, the world outside fading into irrelevance.
Ava’s mind swirled with desire, her body responding to Braiden’s every touch. They parted only to catch their breath, their foreheads resting against each other.
“Stay with me tonight,” Braiden whispered, his voice husky with longing.
Ava’s heart raced, the invitation both thrilling and terrifying. She knew that accepting meant crossing a threshold, but she couldn’t deny the pull between them. “Yes,” she breathed, her own desire mirrored in his eyes.
Their connection was intense, their bodies entwining as they gave in to the primal need to be together. Every touch, every kiss, was a promise of the bond they shared—a bond that was growing stronger with each passing second.
As they lay together, the sheets tangled around them, Ava felt a sense of belonging she hadn’t experienced in years. Wrapped in Braiden’s arms, she finally allowed herself to believe in the possibility of a future where she wasn’t alone.

The next morning, the sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow over the room. Ava blinked awake, feeling the steady rise and fall of Braiden’s chest beneath her cheek. For the first time in a long while, she felt at peace.
But the tranquility was short-lived. A sudden knock on the door jolted them awake, the urgency in the sound immediately putting them on edge.
“Ava, Braiden—there’s been an incident,” came Michael’s voice from the other side. “You need to see this.”
Ava and Braiden exchanged a quick, worried glance before disentangling themselves and dressing hurriedly. They stepped out of the room to find Michael waiting, his expression grim.
“Follow me,” he said curtly, leading them down the hallway and into the mansion’s main corridor.
The scene that greeted them was one of chaos. Wolves from different packs stood in restless groups, their faces masks of concern and anger. At the center of the commotion lay a figure—Lydia, Braiden’s chosen mate.
She was unconscious, her body marked with deep, savage wounds. Blood stained the marble floor beneath her, and her breathing was shallow and labored.
Braiden’s face darkened with fury as he knelt beside her, assessing the wounds. Ava felt a pang of guilt and confusion, knowing that Lydia’s injuries were a direct threat to both Braiden and herself.
“What happened?” Braiden demanded, his voice a low, dangerous growl.
Michael glanced around the room, his expression dark and unreadable. “It was another rogue attack. They seemed to know exactly where to strike and how to bypass our defenses. This is no ordinary assault, Braiden. Someone is orchestrating these attacks from within.”
Ava’s mind raced. The prophecy, Selena’s warning, and now this attack—everything was interconnected in a web of conspiracy and danger.
As Braiden tended to Lydia, Ava felt a surge of determination. She would not let fear control her. Together, they would uncover the truth and face whatever darkness lay ahead.
